The Erie County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a boat that ran aground taking on water with 7 people aboard in Lake Erie adjacent to the mouth of the Niagara River in the City of Buffalo at approximately 9:00 pm today’s date.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit and the United States Coast Guard arrived on location quickly to assist the boater.  The United States Coast Guard tied off to the vessel and began pumping the water out as they towed the vessel into the Erie Basin Marina.  Patrol units from the Buffalo Police Department along with marina personnel assisted getting the vessel on land before sinking.

The operator, Alan Posner of Amherst was operating his vessel in Lake Erie and struck a reef which put a large hole in the hull of the vessel.  There was one minor injury reported by a passenger on the vessel who refused medical attention.

Authority:  Sgt. Rick Lauricella

"I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the citizens of Erie County for your support! Together, we will continue to make a our community a safer and better place to live."
