Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard is announcing the promotion of Lieutenant Cesar A. Botello to the rank of Captain in the Jail Management Division.

Captain Botello was raised in New York City where his family originally settled after emigrating from the Dominican Republic. He moved to Western New York to attend the University of Buffalo. In 1998, Captain Botello was hired as a Deputy Sheriff and started working inside the Erie County Holding Center.  In 2002, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, a position he held for almost a decade.  While working as a Lieutenant, he was the Dayshift Watch Commander at the Holding Center. Captain Botello resides in the City of Buffalo with his wife and two children.

This promotion satisfies a phase 3 requirement outlined in the 2012 Staffing Agreement between the New York State Commission of Correction, the Sheriff’s Office and Erie County. The multi-phased hiring plan is scheduled through 2014. Once completed, it will add seventy-two (72) new security positions in the Jail Management Division.  There are currently twenty-eight (28) new Deputy Sheriff/Correctional Officers getting trained in the corrections academy. They are scheduled to graduate in November.

Any further questions - Superintendent Thomas Diina <858-7635>

"I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the citizens of Erie County for your support! Together, we will continue to make a our community a safer and better place to live."
